About Whitewater Rafting
Whitewater rafting began as a means of exploration and transportation, with some of the earliest documented expeditions taking place in the mid-1800s as explorers navigated major rivers like the Colorado (whoa!!). What started as a way to travel through remote canyons eventually evolved into a recreational activity in the mid-20th century, as improved equipment made river running more accessible and safer.

Today, we see whitewater rafting used as both a sport and as a professional discipline in outdoor education, rescue, and guiding. It combines teamwork, technical paddling skills, and real-time decision-making. In our whitewater rafting courses, students learn to read water, navigate safely through various terrains, and work as a team, building confidence and leadership in dynamic river environments.

We meet students where they are. Each level builds on the last.

Whitewater Rafting: Beginning – If you’re new to whitewater rafting or want to build a strong foundation, this is your starting point. You’ll learn essential paddling techniques, river safety, equipment use, reading river features, and working as part of a raft team. The course also covers basic rescue skills and river stewardship practices. No prior experience required.

Whitewater Rafting: Intermediate – Our Intermediate course builds on foundational skills set as you navigate technical water and more dynamic river environments. There’s a stronger focus on reading more complex river features, boat control, group communication, and decision-making on the water. You’ll refine your technique, build confidence in managing changing river conditions, and deepen your understanding of river travel.

Whitewater Rafting: Guide School – This course focuses on leadership and professional river guiding skills. Students learn to plan and lead river trips, manage risk, make real-time decisions, and guide others safely through whitewater environments. Emphasis is placed on rescue techniques, trip logistics, client care, and effective communication on the river.

FAQ
1. Do I need prior experience?
No experience is required for our Beginning Whitewater course. Intermediate and Guide courses build on prior skills, so it’s best to have some river experience or have completed the previous level.
2. How physically demanding are these courses?
Whitewater rafting is an active sport, and our courses involve paddling, teamwork, and handling moving water. Beginners can expect moderate physical activity, while Intermediate and Guide courses are more challenging and require stamina, focus, and teamwork.
3. What if I don’t have all the gear yet?
We provide most specialized gear, including rafts, paddles, helmets, and personal flotation devices. Students should bring appropriate clothing, shoes that can get wet, and any personal items they want for comfort on the river.
4. What safety measures are in place?
Safety is our top priority. All courses include river safety instruction, rescue techniques, and experienced instructors guiding every trip. We teach students how to make smart decisions, manage risk, and respond to unexpected situations on the water.
5. Can I take multiple courses in a row?
Absolutely! The courses are designed to build on one another. Starting with Beginning and moving through Intermediate to Guide School allows students to progressively develop skills, confidence, and leadership on the river.

The river is calling. Are you ready?
Whitewater rafting teaches more than technique, it teaches confidence, teamwork, and resilience. Step onto the river, embrace the flow, and take lessons from the water that stay with you long after the trip ends.
