About Mountaineering and Ski Mountaineering
While mountains were predominantly used for travel, adventurers in the 19th century began pursuing them further for discovery and a sense of challenge. Mountaineering began to concentrate on how to safely navigate rock, ice, and snow in high-alpine environments. After a while, ski mountaineering emerged from these traditions, mixing climbing skills with backcountry skiing to access and descend in remote, snow-covered terrain.

Now we use mountaineering and ski mountaineering to blend technical skill with decision-making and teamwork. Students will learn to move efficiently through alpine terrain, plan their own routes, identify and manage potential risk factors, and respond to changing conditions across various terrains.

We meet students where they are. Each level builds on the last.

Beginning Mountaineering – If you’re new to alpine environments, this is your starting point. You’ll learn fundamental skills for moving safely on rock, snow, and ice, including basic rope techniques, knots, belaying, and alpine safety. Emphasis is on building confidence, judgment, and teamwork in the mountains.

Intermediate Mountaineering – Designed for students with foundational skills, this course develops proficiency in climbing more complex alpine terrain. Topics include route selection, rope team techniques, glacier travel, snow and ice movement, and advanced risk management.

Ski Mountaineering (Coming Soon) – This course combines mountaineering and backcountry skiing to access remote peaks. Students will learn techniques for ascending and descending snow-covered slopes, using climbing skins, efficient travel strategies, and decision-making in alpine snow conditions.
