WILDERNESS EDUCATION AND OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP CAPSTONE

About Wilderness Education and Outdoor Leadership Capstone

The Wilderness Education and Outdoor Leadership Capstone is the culmination of the WEOL program, designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to manage and lead outdoor organizations. In this course, you’ll explore the full scope of program administration, from planning and staffing to budgeting, marketing, and risk management.

Through real-world case analysis and hands-on project development, students learn how to design, implement, and evaluate wilderness education and outdoor adventure programs. The course culminates in the creation and presentation of a comprehensive business plan, preparing students to lead professionally, responsibly, and creatively in the outdoor industry.

Students in the Capstone begin by exploring the foundations of outdoor program administration, building on skills gained throughout the WEOL curriculum. From there, the course challenges students to apply leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking in real-world contexts, designing programs, policies, and business plans that reflect best practices in wilderness education and outdoor adventure. By the end, students leave with the confidence and competence to manage complex programs and lead teams in a professional outdoor setting.

We meet students where they are.
